8 Things to Include in Your Master Bedroom

What bedroom do you spend the most time in? Is it yours?

We’re guessing not, and if your bedroom is anything like ours, you probably spend the majority of your time in there.

So why not make sure that your room reflects who you are or want to be as a person. We’ve collected our top 5 things to include in a master bedroom for everyone, whether it’s something as simple as an accent or something more complex like a complete remodel. Take a read and see what we think should go into your dream space!

1. A great headboard

A great headboard is hands down one of the most important parts of a bedroom. The first thing you’ll see when you enter any bedroom is the bed, so why not go all out with your headboard?

The first thing to decide on is size. It doesn’t really matter how big or small it is as long as it fits the space. After that just think about what kind of look you’re going for and pick out a design or color and run with it! It could be anything from a cool mosaic tile to a simple wooden frame with some drawer space built in. Anything goes; be creative!

2. A color scheme

After you’ve decided on a headboard, you’ll want to pick out the color scheme of the room. To pick which colors to use you’ll want to think about your style and what your room is going for. For example, if it’s more boy-ish, go with a darker or earthier tone while if it’s more girl-ish, maybe a brighter or more pearly tone is better.

Either way just remember to keep in mind the size of the bedroom as well as how much time you spend there each day. As always keep your space fresh and fun by adding pops of color here and there!

3. Accent furniture

If you’re like us, then you have a ton of accent pieces from your childhood that you’ve kept all this time. If your room is small, then it probably makes perfect sense to include some of these pieces as accent pieces. For example, if it’s small but not lacking in decor, a picture frame or two with some great photos of your family and friends is the perfect place to start!

When we were little we had tons of teddy bears and other similar things hanging on the wall and stored under our bed. Now we’re older (haha!) and don’t really hang those kinds of things anymore.

4. Storage

Ah, storage. You’re here to help and yet we can’t seem to keep things out of our room! First off, make sure you’re using any under the bed or closet space that you have. If not, start looking for some hidden storage like a ladder or a rolling chest. It doesn’t matter if it’s on wheels; just as long as it has a place to store your extra clothes and keeps things from being thrown everywhere in the room!

5. Lighting

The most important part of any bedroom is probably lighting. It’s what helps us see under the bed and find just what we need when we’re getting ready in the morning.

6. Flooring

There are many different kinds of options when it comes to flooring. Some popular choices include a shag rug, hardwood floors, carpet, or even just a plain old rug. Whatever your style is there’s bound to be something that fits into it!

There may be situations where you have to select the flooring based on the headboard you chose and if this is the case, just see what works best with your headboard. For example, if we picked out a wooden headboard then maybe a hardwood floor would look best in the room instead of carpet.

7. Paint

After you’ve picked out the flooring and chosen a paint color it’s time to pick out the color! You’re bound to find a color that works perfectly with your space and really pops when the light is on it. Make sure you don’t go too short with your color choices because you’ll want some positive contrast against your wall colors.

8. Rug selection

Here comes the part where we are most likely to get stuck! The rug is one of those things where people just don’t know what they want or how much they should spend on one, so we’ll try to help guide you in the right direction.

Conclusion

If you follow these steps you’ll have a great place to call your own. If not, you may have some work to do! It’s all part of the process, and we’re sure it’ll be worth it in the end.

I checked out the Lladro house during my site inspection earlier with them. I loved the house and also loved the Franco and Franceso house units. I asked them about master bedroom designs and they showed me this article. Thank you, home folks team!
