Small Bedroom Design Ideas

Are you having trouble venturing into the land of color? Designing a small bedroom can be tough because most of the “big” design options are off limits. But, if you’ve been feeling frustrated or not sure what to do with your bedroom, we have a ton of small bedroom design ideas that will help drastically change the look and feel of your space.

This blog post is going to go over different ways to decorate and make a small room cozy and pleasant. We’ll teach you how to make it seem larger than it really is by using light colors and sleek furniture (yes, even for bunk beds!).

#1 – Go with light colors

How do you make a small room look large? You use light colors. Light colors will brighten up your room and make it seem larger than it actually is. Using cool, light colors such as blue, green, or gray will help reflect the light around the room and open up space. Darker colors such as red, browns and black will absorb all of the light in a room and cast an eerie feeling on the space.

#2 – Use furniture with slim silhouettes

Another way to design a small room is to use furniture with slim silhouettes (you know those big bulky couches you love to sink into?). Using furniture like these will bring a lot of space into a room. And let’s be honest, how many times have you walked into your bedroom and been completely overwhelmed by all the huge pieces of furniture?

The best way to use furniture with slim silhouettes is to think about what you really need in your bedroom. Does the space really need more drawers in order to store more clothing? Do you really need that giant clock on the wall? Are you wasting space because there are items like this that are just taking up the space in your room without adding any function to it? If this is something that bothers you, consider using smaller and less bulky items.

#3 – Use a bed with thin frames

One of the best ways to make a small bedroom look larger is to use beds with thin frames. Beds with an extra tall frame or one that’s deep will make your room look smaller than it really is. On the other hand, beds that are lower or have slim lines will expand the space in your room. When designing a small bedroom, think about what size your mattress actually is and whether or not you need extra storage under it. If not, you can save some space by making your bed lower to the ground or use bed frames with thin side rails.

#4 – Use a bedside table that’s low to the ground

Another way to make your bedroom look larger is to use a bedside table that’s low to the ground. When designing small bedroom, think about getting rid of any bedside tables that are higher than beds. This will spare you from having another piece of furniture in your room. Instead, consider using a small table or one that has drawers on it so you can store things under it when your not using it.

#5 – Use under dresser drawers

Using an under dresser drawer will allow you to store things underneath the bed and make your room feel larger. With the right furniture, small surfaces can be transformed into storage drawers and make the room seem more open.
